| A Brighton Open House as part of the Brighton Arts Festival | |
| The house is a converted corner shop in a very built up part of Brighton. The garden is open and contains some interesting structures made from recycled materials!
Our focus this year is ‘Keep off the grass’, a message that you might have spotted in city parks and other green oases but nowadays you are more likely to see in comics like the Beano! As a child I remember that I couldn’t resist the temptation to play on it – after all, it was always the most lush and verdant spot!
Perhaps this was my first public criminal offence! - after which I proceeded to play ball games where I shouldn’t have and even learned the art of scrumping!
This is the starting point for the exhibition and most of the work on display references this message in one way or another. Issues that you may come across include the criminalisation of our youth, rules, rulers, regulations and we have explored things from a worms perspective!
The exhibition 'Preparing for Emergencies' was the joint winner, along with Brag Studios, of the Fringe Best Open House Award in 2008. The exhibition was held at 62 Bentham Road. Part of the Hanover Open House Arts trail.
