Art in a Chinese take-out
Art is sustenance for the soul ... The Art Take-out night will be at Tsang’s Kitchen, 147 Iffley Road, Oxford. Chinese take-outs are often spaces which follow interior rules. Two-thirds of the area is public; the serving bar takes up the other third, against the back wall, forming a barrier (a Chinese wall). The food is always prepared in another space. Artist Kay Sentance is intrigued by these take-out spaces. At the Art Take-out, ‘Customers’ choose the work they want from the Take-Out Menu. (Works are on view on the ArtWash website prior to the event.) Customers can acquire this work by fulfilling a pledge* determined by the artist. The pledge will be the ‘currency’ for the evening. The Artist will be under the heading they choose (Starter, Main Dish or Dessert). The work**, however, must fit inside a tinfoil take-out container.(Dimensions 18 x 10 x 4.5 cm.) *A Pledge can be a donation to a charity, a promise to talk to strangers, to sing a song… **The work can be a poem, a T-shirt, a small object, a painting - that fits inside the take-out container.
